CBS News reported on a story by Kui Ren, professor of computer science and engineering, about the limitations of using voice-based authentication to secure a smartphone and research he is conducting to overcome those limitations.
“If a smartphone detects a magnet nearby during the process of voice authentication, that can be an indicator that a real human might not be doing the talking,” he writes. “That’s just one part of our system.”
