As computer scientists, we spend a lot of time staring at screens.
This habit can produce "dry eye" symptoms—you might feel irritated, gritty, scratchy, or burning sensations in your eyes.
Dr. Youngah Choi, an optometrist who practices near UB at Empire Visionworks at 1308 Niagara Falls Blvd, Tonawanda, NY, recommends that computer workers care for their eyes by using artificial tears (lubricant eye drops) two to three times per day.
Dr. Choi recommends Systane® or Refresh brands (or comparable store brands). Don't use brands that advertise their ability to "get the red out" because they contain vasoconstrictor chemicals that constrict the blood vessels in your eyes.
