This ceremony is intended and scheduled only for SEAS GRADUATE students who have applied for graduation (degree) indicating one of the following graduation terms:
Students should check with their department advisors to make sure all degree requirements have been met.
Graduate students who have extenuating circumstances are handled on an individual basis. Permission of the major professor and/or department is needed for early participation. Students unable to attend the Commencement for their year are granted a one-year extension to participate the following year if they ask to do so.
Registration for the commencement ceremony is separate from applying for graduation (degree). If you plan to participate in the commencement ceremony, you must register for it.

If you would like to verify that your name will be printed in the commencement program, please check the registration site (see above). Students have the option to check their name without registering for the ceremony. The name printed will be your preferred name as it appears in HUB unless you indicate otherwise. Any changes must be made by April 15, 2020 to allow timely printing of the program.
Candidates earning a baccalaureate degree as part of a combined degree are eligible to receive Latin honors based on their UB cumulative grade point average (GPA) on the following scale:

To receive the Latin honors designation in the printed commencement programs, and to be eligible to wear the honorific gold cord (cum laude, magna and summa) during these ceremonies, candidates for the June degree conferral date must:
This recognition is only intended for students who will have their degrees conferred in June, or have had their degrees conferred in the previous February or September.
The gold cords will be available for purchase ($12) at the University Bookstore on North Campus beginning April 21. Students must present UB ID at time of purchase.
Meet in the Edward L. Wright Practice Facility, located in the lower level of Alumni Arena, one full hour prior to the ceremony start time. Further instructions will be given to you by the commencement marshal at that time.

Each department will hold a reception immediately following the commencement ceremony. Light refreshments will be served at each reception. Make your dinner plans to allow time for you and your guests to attend your department's reception. Please check with your department for specific location. All are welcome.
There are no admission tickets for this event.
Doors open for guest seating one hour prior to the ceremony start time. Seating is general admission; first-come, first-served.

Children, toddlers and infants are welcome as guests at all commencement ceremonies but please review the guidelines below.
Baby strollers are not permitted in Alumni Arena.

The Office of the Registrar will mail your diploma to your permanent address approximately six to eight weeks after the conferral date. Students are responsible for making address changes; these should be made through your HUB Student Center to ensure that you receive your diploma.
