UB structural engineer discusses Buffalo building collapse

Michel Bruneau, a SUNY Distinguished Professor and structural engineer, appeared on WGRZ-TV to discuss a partial building collapse near Oak and Genesee streets in downtown Buffalo.

If you want longevity in a building, Bruneau said there are “three things that you need to do.” First, you must prevent deterioration, he said. Second, you must prevent misuse. And lastly, you must prevent abrupt, unexpected accidents. “If you can prevent accidents, prevent misuse and prevent deterioration, you can keep infrastructure for a very long time.”
