In a story about how Bill Gates’ company, TerraPower, is building next generation nuclear power technologies, CNBC quotes Andrew Whittaker, SUNY Distinguished Professor in the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering.
Whittaker, who studies nuclear structures and their resistance to earthquakes, discussed how new nuclear power plant designs include power storage systems. “Most of the advanced reactor developers I have interacted with in the past five years include thermal storage in a conceptual plant layout,” he said. “It makes good financial sense.”
