“It’s hard to get medical masks in the U.S. right now. I am importing a lot of masks and helping my friends survive in this pandemic,” says John Liu (BS ’17), principal JP Canton, LLC.

Liu and his organization donated 400 medical masks to the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering. Faculty, staff and students in the Department have access to use these masks, and while many are avoiding campus due to the pandemic, some masks have been mailed out to those individuals.

“I want UB faculty and students to stay safe and healthy,” Liu says, “we have to fight this as one.”

Liu’s organization provides different medical supplies to senior and medical centers throughout Manhattan, New York and different facilities throughout Pennsylvania. He has also donated masks and isolation gowns to companies and friends.

Liu graduated from UB in 2017 with a bachelor’s of science in environmental engineering. He worked at multiple engineering firms prior to joining JP Canton, LLC. As Liu continues to donate to organizations and people in need, he hopes others will follow his lead.

“I wanted to help here, and hopefully it drives more donations in the market.”
