A story on Yahoo! News about plans by SpaceX to potentially launch 42,000 internet satellites surrounding Earth quotes John Crassidis, Samuel P. Capen Chair and professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

Crassidis discusses the risks of collisions for another plan, by Amazon, to launch more than 3,000 satellites, which is then related to the SpaceX plan.

"At a 6 percent chance of collision, astronauts would be put into an escape hatch to possibly escape," said Crassidis. "Even at orders of magnitude less than that, you'd want to do a maneuver to avoid it."
