Established in 2012 by Mr. John R. Davis, Jr., BS ’55, and Mrs. Barbara J. Davis. Must be an incoming freshman or current undergraduate, and an accepted engineering major. Must also be a U.S. citizen and from one of the following counties in New York State: Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Ontario, Orleans, Wayne or Wyoming. Must complete the FAFSA and have financial need.

The Felix Smist Scholarship was established in 2005 by James (Jim) and his wife Mary to honor Jim’s late father, Felix Smist. Felix Smist persevered to complete his mechanical engineering BS in 1965 from UB, after 16 years of part-time study. During this time, he worked full-time and raised a family.It is the donors intention to offer one new scholarship each year.

The George F. Schenk Scholarship was established in 2004 by the estate of Margaret T. Schenk, BA '40, BA '41 in honor of her husband, George F. Schenk, a local inventor.  The fund provides scholarships to students in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), with awards restricted to high school students from the eight counties of Western New York.

Established in 1986 by Mrs. Marcia Jarvis and Moog Controls, Inc., in memory of Gregory B. Jarvis. Must be a newly admitted or continuing undergraduate and an accepted major in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Established by Cobham Mission Systems of Orchard Park, NY. Must be a junior in electrical, mechanical, or aerospace engineering with a minimum GPA of 3.2 and demonstrated leadership qualities; must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Must successfully complete paid internship at Cobham between junior and senior year to receive scholarship for senior year.

Established in 1959 by the Buffalo Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Buffalo Chapter of the Society of American Military Engineers. Must be an undergraduate civil engineering major.

Thomas and Dr. Mark H. Karwan. Must be an incoming or continuing undergraduate majoring in Industrial Engineering, with preference to those students with military experience, and working their way through school, especially if a leave of absence is taken to earn money for college.

Established by Naida Irizarry Shaw and Max Kay in memory of Eleanor Kay. Must be an undergraduate or graduate major in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in good academic standing. Must demonstrate financial need; domestic students complete the FAFSA and international students complete the financial aid statement in the General Application. Preference will be given to students historically underrepresented in higher education with entrepreneurial inclinations.

The Chih Foundation honors PhD and MD/PhD students enrolled in either the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences or the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences who have not yet completed their doctoral studies. This is a cash award. Must submit a published research paper in their field, which reflects invention and innovation for the betterment of society. Nominees should demonstrate a passion for research and publication and the value of putting the needs of others and the betterment of society above personal interests.

Karen Furlani honored her late husband, former UB engineering professor, Edward P. Furlani, PhD '82, MA '80 & BS '77, by establishing this fund in 2019. Must be an undergraduate senior planning to pursue an advanced degree. One electrical engineering and one chemical and biological engineering student will be selected annually.
