    Established in 2012 by Mr. John R. Davis, Jr., BS ’55, and Mrs. Barbara J. Davis. Must be an incoming freshman or current undergraduate, and an accepted engineering major. Must also be a U.S. citizen and from one of the following counties in New York State: Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Ontario, Orleans, Wayne or Wyoming. Must complete the FAFSA and have financial need.

    The Felix Smist Scholarship was established in 2005 by James (Jim) and his wife Mary to honor Jim’s late father, Felix Smist. Felix Smist persevered to complete his mechanical engineering BS in 1965 from UB, after 16 years of part-time study. During this time, he worked full-time and raised a family.It is the donors intention to offer one new scholarship each year.

    The George F. Schenk Scholarship was established in 2004 by the estate of Margaret T. Schenk, BA '40, BA '41 in honor of her husband, George F. Schenk, a local inventor.  The fund provides scholarships to students in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), with awards restricted to high school students from the eight counties of Western New York.

Must demonstrate academic excellence by being in the top quartile of students in their class based on GPA. Must be eligible for New York State tuition and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. This is a cash award. Must submit a published research paper in their field, which reflects invention and innovation for the betterment of society. Nominees should demonstrate a passion for research and publication and the value of putting the needs of others and the betterment of society above personal interests.
