Experiential Learning Programs

We Connect the Classroom to the Real World

SEAS Experiential Learning Programs help young engineers develop professionalism and a practical perspective by connecting the classroom to the real world. 

Our experiential learning continuum encourages students to “engineer today” in addition to attending class. Continuous, experiential learning enlarges students’ technical competence and prepares them for their future careers.  



Tinkering is the first step in the ELP continuum. Students pursue self-led, hands-on practice as a precursor to being involved in more significant activities.


An engineering intramural is any problem-based extracurricular engineering activity that provides an authentic (i.e., “real-world”) learning experience for students.

An internship experience is defined as any full- or part-time work experience related to an engineering degree program that takes place at a company while students continue their degree programs without interruption.
Interns and/or industry partners identify projects that form part of a capstone senior design (or graduate research) project, where multidisciplinary design teams work on semester-long design projects.
The Engineering Senior Design Expo provides students with a chance to present their work to a broad audience inclusive of fellow students, faculty and industry partners.

Host students for a half-day shadowing experience.


Sponsor a Hackathon-style project hosted by student engineering clubs.

Onsite Seminar

Host a seminar for students at your industry site.
