Sanchez-Pena elected to ASEE ERM executive board

Matilde Sanchez-Pena, assistant professor in the Department of Engineering Education, has been elected to the American Society of Engineering Education’s (ASEE) Educational Research and Methods (ERM) Division Executive Board.

An ASEE member since 2014, Sanchez-Pena will serve as a director on the board for a two-year term. In this capacity, she will weigh in on major policies that affect the division and take on other various duties as assigned by the chair of the Executive Board.

The board’s bylaws are broadly written so that the board members may work together to address a wide range of issues that are important the division. Some initiatives in recent years have included making the division more inclusive and welcoming, making ERM sessions more interactive and dynamic, supporting engineering education graduate/undergraduate research communities, and supporting a paper appeals process. 

Sanchez-Pena’s research interests include cultures of wellbeing, institutional diversity, faculty advancement, equity and inclusion assessment, Data Science teaching and learning, social responsibility, social justice.

Before joining the University at Buffalo in January 2021, she was a Visiting Assistant Professor in the School of Engineering Education at Purdue University where she also earned her PhD.
