Biography

Professor Park is currently an associate professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and the director of graduate studies. Prior to joining UB in Fall 2006, he received a PhD in biophysics from Harvard University and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania.

Professor Park works on biotechnology applications of engineered proteins involving detection and reporting. The Park lab has engineered the first functional monomeric streptavidin that is used in in vivo imaging and biomolecular detection. Other systems that are developed and applied include single chain and single domain antibodies, intein, and protein A/G. Model based rational design and directed evolution by yeast display are used to engineer proteins.

He is a recipient of a CAREER award from the National Science Foundation and edited a book on Protein Engineering and Design.
