The Buffalo News reported the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation awarded UB $4.5 million to create a state Center for Plastic Recycling Research and Innovation at UB. The center will be led by Amit Goyal, SUNY Distinguished Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering.
In a news conference Wednesday at UB, Goyal said the center will study ways to develop new markets for recyclable plastics, methods for streamlining the recycling process and reducing contamination in the recycling stream. Kemper Lewis, dean of UB's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, said the partnership with DEC elevates UB's role in pursuing innovations that "promote a healthier and more equitable environment in New York State and beyond."
