"My favorite in class memory was Prof. David Kofke telling the class during recitation for Fluid Mechanics that he figured out how the flushing mechanism for a toilet worked in a dream (I hope I am remembering this correctly). My favorite out of class memory was how there was so much snow in Buffalo during the winter, one year my friends and I decided to build an igloo. We did and it was super warm inside!"

Stephanie Lam graduated from the University at Buffalo with a BS in Chemical Engineering in 2009. While at UB, she participated in the undergraduate chapter of AIChE – helping with the ChemE Car and organizing volunteer activities for the club. As an undergraduate student, she found a passion for scientific research while working in the lab of Prof. Alexandridis and went on to pursue her PhD in Chemical Engineering at North Carolina State University after graduation. She obtained her PhD in Chemical Engineering from NC State in 2014. During her thesis, she developed and studied novel foam and emulsion systems, which were stabilized using particles. In 2014, she was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship by the National Research Council and is now a postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, where she studies surfactant-mediated carbon nanotube interactions.
In her free time, Stephanie likes to go hiking and biking near the Potomac River. She also enjoys participating in STEM outreach activities to help promote scientific curiosity in young children.
