AIChe Fellow, Process Control Specialist Honeywell's UOP
James (Jim) Harris, principle process control engineer at Honeywell’s UOP, was recently elevated to the status of Fellow by nomination and national review for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers’ (AIChE).
Along with being a Process Control Specialist for UOP, with a specialization in Aromatics Technologies, Mr. Harris is the UOP - Technical Leader for Safety Instrumented System Applications.
Previous to this role Mr. Harris was a Field Instrument Advisor. In this role for 6 years, he traveled to multiple countries (Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Korea, Puerto Rico and Brazil) with some time also in Texas and Chicago.
An active Senior member of AIChE he has been a session chair of the Topical on Refining at AIChE Spring meetings multiple times, presented at the AIChE spring meeting and was elected to a three year term (2007-2010) as Director of the Fuels and Petrochemicals division. As part of this role he chaired the student Energy Prize competition.
Mr. Harris is also active in ISA and API. ISA awarded him the UOP Technology Award in 2005 in addition to recognizing him as a Fellow grade member of their society.
Mr. Harris has contributed greatly to the Chemical Engineering profession by adding his input to process control topics across many different refining technologies. His work on the development of UOP's initial designs of Dividing Wall column control systems resulted in 3 patents and the 2005 IChemE Haden Freeman Award for Engineering Excellence.
Jim has been awarded 3 U.S. patents throughout his career with an additional 9 pending.
