‘Space junk’ crashes into and damages part of International Space Station

Mechanical and aerospace engineering professor John Crassidis appeared on The Today Show  to discuss how a piece of space debris damaged a robotic arm of the International Space Station.

Crassidis, the Samuel P. Capen Chair Professor and a SUNY Distinguished Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, said the incident shows how dangerous space debris can be. “As we launch more and more satellites, there’s going to be more chances of collision. And with those collisions it’s going to cause even more pieces of debris.
