A story on WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee about the growing problem of drones that are invading protected airspace every day interviews Javid Bayandor, associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, who said a pilot would have little time to avoid a drone in its path.

"If you have a large commercial aircraft at such a high speed, by the time the aircraft sees you, it would be too late," he said. The story includes a simulation conducted in Bayandor’s Crashworthiness for Aerospace Structures and Hybrids (CRASH) Lab of what a drone would do to a jet engine. "Depending on the size of the drone, it could be dislodged. If it's larger, it could cause more serious problems," he said.
