Spectrum News 1 interviewed Sayanti Mukherjee, assistant professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, for a story on the challenges of burying power lines in an effort to cut down on snapped utility poles during severe storms like Hurricane Ian.

Mukherjee, an expert on critical infrastructure systems, like the power grid, discusses the cost difference between utility poles and buried lines, the difficulties of burying lines in high risk areas, hardening infrastructure, the cost to customers and more.
