Business First reports that biomedical engineer Jun Xia has partnered with Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and Windsong Radiology Group to develop a portable breast-imaging system that is funded by a $1.4 million NIH grant.
Though still in the research and development phase, the device could one day replace mammograms for screening, said Xia, lead investigator and an associate professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
“We’ll probably work with someone else (and) license out the technique to make it broader,” Xia said. “For the next few years, we’ll further improve resolution and image quality and add more capabilities.”
