WIVB-TV interviewed Ian Bradley, assistant professor of civil, structural and environmental engineering, who has been working with Erie County on a project examining the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater.

Recent testing shows that Erie County has 48 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents, two shy of the “substantial risk” category. “We have been seeing increases over the last two weeks,” said Bradley. “With Delta (variant), we know a lot more people are shedding this virus, so expect that if we start seeing increases in cases over the next week or two, we’re gonna see very high increases in the wastewater, much more than 25 or 50%. We’ll see very large increases as people are shedding more.”
