“My energy comes from connecting with the community around me each day. This could be through an event sponsored by our Black@FB Resource Group, at a team offsite or by simply getting together with a friend over coffee. The global Black@FB leadership conference embodies community at Facebook. Once a year, we come together in person to support our agenda of personal and professional development. We build community at the event by establishing new relationships with other black employees and solidifying our current friendships. I always leave the conference feeling empowered and encouraged to leverage my personal strengths to make an impact both inside and outside of Facebook.” – Alvin J., Finance Operations Manager

"Joining the Facebook team from Charlotte, North Carolina was a huge leap. Like most people, I wanted to connect with the community around me. Participating in activities at Facebook’s fitness center allowed me to meet people from across the company. I was invited to join the basketball league, and through that I established relationships which led to me running a Facebook 5k, and later participating in a flag football tournament. Through these fitness activities I’ve been able to break down communication barriers and network with other teams. Between work and life, it can be difficult to stay connected but Facebook provides ways to build community that make it easier." - Ryan G., Program Manager, Human Resources
“Today we're opening our first-ever Facebook Community Leadership Program. Our goal is to find people who are using Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger to bring people closer together. We'll pick up to five leaders around the world and give them up to $1 million to fund their ideas for doing even more. We'll invite 100 leaders to be part of our fellowship program that includes training, mentorship, and up to $50,000 for a specific initiative.” —Mark Zuckerberg
Last year I met Matt Prestbury. He runs a group for black fathers out of Baltimore. It's a way for dads to get together -- online and in the physical world -- t...o talk about the challenges they face and find support.
Over the years, I've noticed that almost every strong community has a strong leader. They could be the pastor of a church, the coach of a little league team, or the neighbor who's always there if you need something. Great leaders set the culture, inspire us, and look out for our well-being. They help build communities that didn't exist before. And we believe that if we work to give them more tools, they could do even more.
Today we're opening our first-ever Facebook Community Leadership Program. Our goal is to find people who are using Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger to bring people closer together. We'll pick up to five leaders around the world and give them up to $1 million to fund their ideas for doing even more. We'll invite 100 leaders to be part of our fellowship program that includes training, mentorship, and up to $50,000 for a specific initiative.
This program is about finding and supporting great community leaders wherever they are. It's not just about helping people come together online. A lot of online communities strengthen physical communities by holding get-togethers, organizing events, and supporting each other in their daily lives, even across long distances.
So if you're a community leader or you know a great one, visit communities.fb.com and tell us your story. And thanks for everything you're doing to bring the world closer together.

“Our team, like Workplace, is new. We are a globally distributed team across America, EMEA and APAC. The fun part about the team is that we are building the plane as we are flying it. There is so much to be figured out and built. Every day brings some new problem to be solved since Workplace itself is a startup inside Facebook that's rapidly growing. Our job is to figure out how we help scale our reach and impact in the world via Partners.” - Anand D., Workplace Ecosystems Partner Manager

We just released our quarterly results and community update.
Mark, Dave, and I just shared an update on our business.
2017 was a challenging and important year for Facebook. We committed to investing more in the safety an...d security of our community and all the businesses on Facebook. It was also a year where more than 6 million active advertisers used Facebook and more than 2 million used Instagram every month. Many are hard-working small and medium-sized businesses creating jobs and making a difference in their communities.
Looking forward, we’re going to stay focused on helping more businesses grow – and doing more to ensure the quality, authenticity, and transparency of ads on our platform. We’ve already started letting people see the ads a Page is running, even if those ads aren’t targeted to them directly. We’re testing this in Canada before bringing it to the US this summer. As we roll out features to make advertising on Facebook more transparent and strengthen enforcement against bad actors, we’ll keep responding to feedback.
As Mark said today, we also want to do more to make sure being on Facebook is a genuinely good use of people’s time. That’s why we’ve announced some important updates this year – including prioritizing meaningful social interactions with family and friends over passively consuming content, and helping make sure the news you do see is high quality, trustworthy, and local. By focusing on quality overall, we expect that the time we spend on Facebook will be more valuable – and we believe our community and business will be stronger over the long term too.
We’re grateful to everyone who’s part of the Facebook community, including our teams who work hard to make us better and the millions of businesses that leave a positive mark on the world. We're honored to work with you and learn from you every day.

“Start by listening. I believe we should all listen more than we talk and ask challenging questions to ensure we fully understand what our partners are trying to accomplish. I love getting to a point in a relationship with a client when they truly appreciate and seek out my guidance. Once they start asking for guidance on more than just Facebook and want my opinion on their broader marketing initiatives, or even better yet their broader business challenges, I know my team has truly reached the status of trusted partner. I currently lead our US CPG Retail vertical where I make an impact each day by inspiring our clients to see a better future for their marketing programs.” - Carlos G., US CPG Retail Vertical Lead
