I had rather high expectations of this place after reading the reviews and seeing the 4.4 star rating. However, as soon as the food came in, all hopes went plunging down the drain.
To start off, the cafe is in a secluded area, no beachside views. It gave off a very casual vibe, done up in a beach shack kind of style. It was a little rundown; the fish pools were not well maintained, but I was ready to compromise for some amazing, fresh seafood.
The food was, to say disappoint...ing, is a huge understatement.

To start off, we ordered mussels and squid as entrees, which took 45 minutes to arrive. It was overcooked to the point that it was tough and rubbery. Mussels which were supposed to be soft and supple was instead chewy. The lobster and fish bbq we ordered were equally overcooked with random sauce over it. The other sauces served in the side were store bought, out of bottles.

The piece de resistance of this c**pshow was the soup. It was bits of seafood that had been boiled to death in a weakly flavoured concoction of coriander leaves. The taste was so bad we had it returned to the kitchen, we made our issues known to the waiters, but there was zero response from the chef.
Ultimately it was 6000 bdt that was flushed down the drain.
I do NOT recommend that anyone go here, the entire place was empty except for us, this should have been the first clue that the reviews did not exactly line up with reality.

Much hyped place. The cafe is physically very attractive and inviting though a bit dark in the evening with a broken dingy road before it.

The staffs are polite but poorly trained lacking idea about what they are selling to customers.

Time management is horrible with terrible coordination in running the cafe.

...

My cream mushroom soup was good but when my herbed rice arrived the soup became cold.

Anyways a much frequented place by foreigners guaranteeing privacy, food options and cosyness.

I always have a good time at this cafe, have been coming here since 2009..though experienced ups and downs with food and service but I have always seen that they have tried to fix it. So I m happy. And I will recommend mermaid to anybody anytime, always.

The decoration is just mind blowing, naturally decorated. I always dreamt to have time that place. It's a suggestion for the authority of this cafe, please play our traditional music like the natural decorations of the cafe.

What a rip-off! At first, I was like: okay it's expensive but I am sure the food would be good. Unfortunately, it wasn't. The crab dish was too greasy. The lobster was full of cheesy guu. I think they didn't even serve us a real lobster. It was full of small pieces of finger sized prawns. Over all: pricey food, terrible cooking, with nice ocean breeze. Be ready to fill up your stomach with disappointment.

Everything is all right..but lemonade price is too much but quality is not so good.but other items are very good..nice place.vat is too high..otherwise All Right..

Pricey but good quality food. Please soften the crust of pizza it's really hard to cut it down.

I have always dreamed of having a quiet, relaxed, not too expensive honemoon. and Mermaid Resort was the best place for that. at first I wasn't sure about the place. however, when I arrived there I liked it instantly. My loved spread through during our two night of stay.
They are professional yet polite. We loved the fact that we have a place like this in Bangladesh so we really don't have to go overseas to enjoy a quiet, romantic getaway.

The total environment of the cafe is very natural and touchy, everybody should to visit there and taste the flavor of it. Really fantastic

Their Service was way beyond of my expectation. Very nice and beautiful place. Very calm and quiet. The resort is a natural haven by the Cox'sbazar sea beach.Me and my wife really enjoyed the place. Best part was their world class customer service. Definitely we will come back again to visit.
