Retired Chemical Industry Executive
Jim Glattly, BS ’73, MS ’76, prior to retirement held the position of Senior Vice President, Genesis Energy LP, Houston, TX, with primary responsibilities for Sales & Marketing and Key Raw Material Procurement for the Refinery Services division (formerly TDC, a privately owned company). This division is the chemical business for the parent mid-stream oil and gas MLP, who purchased this sulfur and sodium balancing company in 2007. Jim’s broad background in the industrial chemical sector played a key role in building TDC’s market presence in processing excess sulfur from refineries and chemical plants and converting it to a key raw material used in copper processing, pulp & paper manufacturing, tanning and environmental applications. His career started in Niagara Falls as a Manufacturing Engineer with Hooker Chemical, the predecessor to Occidental Chemical. Over a 10 year period with Oxy he held a variety of senior marketing, product management and sales management positions across the U.S. Along the way he joined Holland Chemical International as General Manager, HCI USA with the assignment of creating a U.S. presence for this entrepreneurial international chemical trading/distribution company.
In 1988 he had the opportunity to join the formation of Pioneer Chlor-Alkali Company, a leveraged buyout of several chemical plants from major producers. During his tenure as VP Sales & Marketing and then as President of this NYSE company, multiple production assets were acquired setting the stage to take the company public. His educational resume includes an MBA from Canisius College, pre-med studies at the University of Iowa and aerospace engineering at FIT. Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1972 prior to attending the University at Buffalo.
