One of the first events of the week on Monday was the Egg Drop challenge, where participants built a device that would help an egg survive a fall from the third floor of the Student Union.
Lisa Hu, a senior mechanical and aerospace engineering major, shows off her egg after a successful drop.
The aftermath.
The 3D Printed Derby also took place on Monday. Clubs printed cars with design specifications and then raced them.
Senior mechanical engineering major Miguel Sanz (left, in black baseball cap) helps start the race.
And the winner is in the far-left lane.
Tuesday's highlights included Catapult Pong and Newspaper Bridges. Senior mechanical engineering major Troy Kilian focuses as he lines up his catapult for the water pong-like event.
Mechanical engineering majors Tyler Smith (left) and Tim Darling gather their bridge materials. Competitors were given a limited number of sheets of newspaper to build a bridge that could hold the most weight.
Tyler Smith adds weight to the bridge as Tim Darling watches.
Smith and Darling's bridge held a bucketful of marbles and more. The bridge failed because the bucket lost its balance.
Sarah Wagner, a junior environmental engineering major (foreground) starts the timer for the Recycle Relay. That's Elisabeth Anak Jilan running for the AICHE team.
The results of the relay are reviewed and scored.
In the First-Person Maze, participants tried their hand at guiding a robot through a timed maze using only first-person view goggles. The inside of the maze was decorated with glow-in-the-dark scenery, which was illuminated by the black lights on the robot.
Materials for the Hydraulic Pulley event, which asked competitors to build a functional pulley out of hydraulics and wooden pieces.
Mechanical engineering major Jon Sitter constructs a pulley.
Luo Cao, a senior industrial and systems engineering major, works on her pulley.
Judge Osazuwa Eghafona, a sophomore chemical engineering major, tests and scores a pulley. This one could pinch/grasp to pick things up, which earned it high marks.
A Giant Jenga player studies his choices in an intensified version of the popular childhood game.
Looks like this player may have made the wrong choice.
Oops!
Engineering clubs constructed marble roller coasters out of cardboard.
Students work together to get the coaster's twists and turns just right for a smooth ride.
This loop might be too much for the marble.
Members of the SEDS/AIAA team work on their bot, Space Launch System, before competing in the week's headliner event on Friday: Bot Wars.
Students gather in the Student Union lobby to watch the carnage.
The EWE/SWE team devised a fun theme for their bot, "Bot the Builder."
The ASME team was the ultimate winner with their bot, "Doorstop." Jon Sitter (first row, center) was the driver.
After the winners were decided, the remaining teams took part in a multi-bot melee.
