Francine Battaglia, a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, has been named Acting Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, effective July 27, 2019.

“Dr. Battaglia brings a wealth of experience in the area of promotion and tenure committee work from both UB and Virginia Tech,” says Rajan Batta, Interim Dean of SEAS. “I look forward to working with her to advance the services that our Office of Faculty Affairs offers.”

Battaglia came to UB in 2017 after ten years at Virginia Tech and eight years at Iowa State University. Since joining UB, Battaglia has served two years on the SEAS Tenure Committee and chaired the SEAS Ad Hoc Committee on Sexual Harassment. Her past leadership experience has also included chairing the Mechanical Engineering (ME) Promotion and Tenure (P&T) Committee, while concurrently serving on the College of Engineering P&T Committee for two years, both at Virginia Tech.

At UB, Battaglia is the director of the Computational Research for Energy Systems and Transport Laboratory (CREST). Her research explores issues related to the thermal sciences by using computational fluid dynamics and developing computational models.

She was elected Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 2009 and Fellow of the American Society of Thermal and Fluids Engineers in 2019.

Battaglia replaces Rajan Batta, former Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Diversity, who is serving as SEAS’ interim dean.
