In this engineering ethics session, we will explore how professional engineers' decisions are influenced by personal values, prior experience, and professional responsibilities. Using a case study about a data center’s impact on sustainable water resources, participants will examine and discuss relevant codes of ethics, personal values, and the perspectives and rights of various stakeholders. Participants will reflect on how these elements factor into their decision-making process and develop tools to meet their professional ethical obligations.
Dr. Amy Baird is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Engineering Education at the University at Buffalo. She teaches STEM Communications and Ethics in Engineering and Computing to engineering and computer science undergraduates.
