Real-Time Aerodynamics Hybrid Simulation

A Novel Wind-Tunnel Model for Flexible Bridges

Two PhD students prep for an experiment in UB's wind tunnel.

Collaborators

Associate professor Teng Wu, Associate professor Mettupalayam Sivaselvan, Shaopeng Li, PhD

Project description

This Institute of Bridge Engineering (IBE), Region II University Transportation Center-funded project utilizes the expertise of our fire engineering expert, Negar Elhami-Khorasani, her former PhD student Nan Hua and geotechnical engineer Anthony Tessari to establish guidelines for temperature demands in the deisgn of concrete tunnels.

Major tunnel fires can have catastrophic consequences, including loss of life, property damage and service disruptions. Researchers at UB CSEE utilize the Department's furnace and other equipment to run simulations with different temperatures, fire durations, heating rates and other factors to help develop guidelines that make our infrastructure safer.
