Fatou Cisse, UB CBE undergraduate student, has been selected to be a 2017-2018 NASA/New York Space Grant Consortium: National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program fellow. Ms. Cisse has been working in Dr. Swihart's lab for the past two years on the synthesis of platinum-based nanomaterials. Her research project focuses on the process of synthesizing nanopowders palladium based particles using High-Temperature Reducing Jet Reactor and the process of transforming the powder to nanoinks. The project aims to utilize the nanoinks process toward improving the morphological structure of the materials. The composition, crystal structures, and size of the particles were characterized via Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Transmission Electron Microscope. The broader impact of the synthesis of palladium-based alloy particles includes its usage for hydrogen separation and storage. Ms. Cisse's research will be highlighted along with other students from the NASA Consortium across the United States in NASA publications. Following graduation, she will be working with the US Department of Navy.
