Dr. Ken-Tye Yong is an Associate Professor and Provost’s Chair in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Nanyang Technological University. He obtained his PhD degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the University at Buffalo in 2006 in the Mark Swihart research group.

Currently, his research group interests include engineeringnanomaterials for biophotonic and nanomedicine applications, nanotoxicity andpharmacokinetics of nanoparticles, fabricating miniaturized devices for drugdelivery, developing nanosensors for biodetection, and creating devices fornanophotonics studies.

Founded in 1916, OSA is the leading professional association in optics and photonics, home to accomplished science, engineering, and business leaders from all over the world. Through world-renowned publications, meetings, and membership programs, OSA provides quality information and inspiring interactions that power achievements in the science of light.

Fellow membership in OSA is limited to no more than ten percent of the membership and is reserved for members who have served with distinction in the advancement of optics and photonics, making each year’s honorees a highly selective group.

Ken-Tye is being honored specifically “for significant contributions to develop optical functional nanomaterials and devices for biophotonic and nanophotonic applications.” The press release announcing OSA’s 2020 Fellows is available on their website.
