What is your favorite thing about living in Buffalo?
Ahh, that's a tough one. For me it's mostly the awesome people and the wide range of things to do in the area. If you want good food, there's a bunch of great places. If you are a winter sports person like myself, there are great places nearby to ski or snowboard. Then there's the Niagara Falls area which always has things going on. It's a pretty awesome area honestly.
What was your involvement outside the classroom?
During my time here I've enjoyed being involved in some of the awesome clubs available on campus. Pretty much anything you could be interested in there is probably a club for at UB. I really enjoyed Campus Ambassadors. They are an awesome community where I was really able to use and develop my music performance skills. I have also really enjoyed CRU. They have a lot of awesome community events and I was able to make a lot of really good friends there. This semester I decided to get involved with intramural basketball. It's been a lot of fun so far and it is really well put together.
Did you have any internships?
The many career locating options offered at UB have allowed me to land some amazing internship opportunities during the summer. In the summer of 2015 I interned with the Department of Energy at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California. During the summer of 2016 I was honored to land an internship doing research and development with NASA. Then over this past summer of 2017 I was able to intern with my dream company - Lockheed Martin.
What makes your UB story unique or noteworthy?
I don't think my story is necessarily unique. I think my story could be relatable to many students on campus. I grew up in a small town and when I came to UB I was determined to make the most of every opportunity I was given. UB has proved to be an excellent launch pad for people passionate about achieving their highest career goals.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation I have accepted a job offer with Lockheed Martin in Owego, NY. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with the company and am excited to begin applying the skills that I have obtained. Lockheed has always been on the top of my list for places to work, and the opportunity I have been extended will allow me to live a lot closer to my girlfriend.
What is your advice to current and incoming MAE students?
My best advice is to take advantage of all the opportunities given to you early on. Get involved and make friends. Focus on learning and get good grades, but don't miss the opportunity to enjoy your time here. Explore the clubs on campus, make connections and be adamant about pursuing your goals for when you graduate. Find what you're passionate about doing when you graduate and seek out people and programs that can help catapult you there.
