Aaron Estes, assistant professor of teaching in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, has received the 2019 Vanderhoef Faculty Award.
The award is given to a faculty member in the MAE department who makes the extra effort to coach, mentor and provide support for students.
“I am thrilled to see Aaron win this award as it recognizes a faculty member's significant impact on our students,” said Kemper Lewis, Moog Professor of Innovation and chair of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. “This recognition of his outstanding instruction and mentoring is well deserved.”
Estes earned his PhD in mechanical engineering from UB in 2016 and has been a faculty member at the university since 2017. His research interests include dynamics and control, system identification, and game-based learning in engineering higher education. He is also the 2018 recipient of the Tau Beta Pi Professor of the Year.
Alum and MAE Department Advisory Board member John Vanderhoef, BS ’79, Mechanical Engineering, established the award as a way to encourage and reward faculty and staff who spend the extra time to make a difference in the lives of their students.
