UAS Vision (short for Unmanned Aircraft Systems) reports on UB’s new 24,000-square-foot outdoor drone testing facility, believed to be the third largest in the nation.

Niagara Gazette and The Lockport Union-Sun & Journal reported that UB has constructed a 24,000 square-foot research complex to test drones and quotes Chase Murray, assistant professor of industrial and systems engineering.

“Our plan is to leave the netting up year-round,” says  Murray.“This will enable us to conduct tests and improve the performance of UAVs in the often-harsh winter weather conditions that we encounter.”

The facility, called Structure for Outdoor Autonomy Research (SOAR) is located on the North Campus.
