Creating ferroelectric metamaterials with 3D printing

"Creating these metamaterials has been largely uneconomical until now, as they are traditionally made of ceramics. But a team of researchers from UB, with some funding from the U.S. Army Research Office, have made steps into making their creation more cost effective, and they used 3D printing to do just that," the publication reports. 

“The sky is the limit when it comes to ferroelectric metamaterials,” says the study’s lead author, Shenqiang Ren, PhD, professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

UB associate professors Mostafa Nouh (mechanical and aerospace engineering) and Chi Zhou (industrial and systems engineering) were part of the research team.
