This transparent wood could be an energy-saver in green buildings

An article in Smithsonian about researchers in Sweden who have created a clear wood material they hope could one day be used for more energy-efficient buildings interviews Mark Swihart, professor of chemical and biological engineering

Swihart said that making transparent wood by removing the lignin and refilling the pores with polymer is not a new technique and materials that store and release energy aren’t new either. “The thing that seems to be new is their approach to the energy storage.”
