Rise of voice recognition creates new cyber security threat

An article on Tech World about the cybersecurity threats posed by voice-activated devices such as smart speakers and smartphones reports researchers from UB’s Ubiquitous Security and Privacy Research Lab are developing an app that can detect a voice-replay attack, and quotes Kui Ren, professor of computer science and engineering.

"We cannot decide if voice authentication will be pervasive in the future. It might be. We're already seeing the increasing trend," he said. "And if that is the case, we have to defend against voice replay attacks. Otherwise, voice authentication cannot be secure."
