The Future Faculty Workshop provides insights and information
for doctoral students who plan to embark on a career in
The SEAS Future Faculty Workshop is held in the spring to provide insight and information about careers in academia. Participants are doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows nominated by their department.
The workshop consists of a series of panel discussions that feature junior faculty, senior faculty and an alumni/doctoral student panel. Each panel consists of short presentations by panel members, followed by a question and answer session.
Typically, the junior faculty panel shares their experiences in finding a faculty position and are current assistant professors in SEAS.
The senior faculty panel discusses topics such as the workings of a search committee as well as insights into family/workplace balance issues. Panel members are all tenured faculty members in SEAS.
The alumni/doctoral student panel focus on experiences in applying to and interviewing for a faculty position. Panel members are either doctoral students from SEAS who have recently obtained a faculty position or former SEAS doctoral students who are currently faculty members at other engineering schools.
