Barbara and Jack Davis Engineering Education Fund Scholarship

Established in 2012 by Mr. John R. Davis Jr., BS'55, Industrial Engineering and Mrs. Barbara J. Davis to show their appreciation to UB's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences for preparing Jack to be a success. The scholarship provides support to recruit or retain undergraduate engineering students from Western New York with proven financial need. The primary focus of the fund is to educate students to be engineers.

About the Donor

John R. "Jack" Davis is a well-known Western New York industrialist who graduated from the University at Buffalo with a degree in engineering in 1955. He served in the Marine Corps Reserves and as a deck officer in the Coast Guard. In 1964, he founded I Squared R, the nation’s only manufacturer of silicon carbide and molybdenum disilicide heating elements. I Squared R products are used in the manufacturing of other products, such as flat-panel display glass, fiber optics and solar panels.

  • Up to $5000 ($2500 per semester)

Selection Criteria

  • Proven financial need as determined by FAFSA.

Eligibility

  • Student must be from Western New York.
  • Student is accepted into the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
  • Student must maintain full-time status, major in one of the engineering degree programs offered by SEAS and be in good standing.
  • Successful student will be required to write a thank you letter to the donor.

Application Deadlines

  • Deadline for current undergraduate students: February 15
  • Deadline for new undergraduate students: March 15

Selection

  • Scholarship recipient will be chosen by a faculty/staff committee.
