Student Leader: Tom Leach

I have always liked helping people who are genuinely interested in learned. While there were some students who would basically ask you for answers, there were more often students who were interested in approaching the problem from many different angles and just needed guidance."

What did serving as a Student Leader mean to you? What motivated you to participate?
I love teaching students and helping them understand the different ways to approach problems. It is good to see them get away from the "Plug-N-Chug" method of solving problems. As for motivation, I have always liked helping people who are genuinely interested in learned. While there were some students who would basically ask you for answers, there were more often students who were interested in approaching the problem from many different angles and just needed guidance. And of course...the MONEY!!!!

A memory that remains with me from my Student Leader days is:
One of my teams winning the turbine contest!!! Their performance was the highest in the course and they had great justification for all of their design decisions. It was great to see them begin with the stock turbine and very little understanding of wind energy and go to understanding the derivations of maximum energy available, how to develop a series of multi-factor tests and also build up great presentation skills.

Any leaders you'd like to shout-out to?
Danny Snitzer for that great Wind Data!!!
