Student Leader: Kelly Duval

Being a Student Leader and a TA was honestly one of the best parts about college. It sounds corny, but I truly wouldn’t be who I am today without having that experience. Getting to meet and know so many amazing people was something I’ll always be grateful for. Bill certainly knows how to pick’em. I'm thankful that I got to have that experience and it's something that I'll always treasure."

What did serving as a Student Leader mean to you? What motivated you to participate?
Being a Student Leader and a TA was honestly one of the best parts about college. It sounds corny, but I truly wouldn’t be who I am today without having that experience. Getting to meet and know so many amazing people was something I’ll always be grateful for. Bill certainly knows how to pick’em. I'm thankful that I got to have that experience and it's something that I'll always treasure. I was motivated to participate because I was really flattered that Bill asked me to. It seemed like a good opportunity and plus, there was free pizza and cookies at this end of year meeting so why not? (That’s how they get you by the way.) But after that, I kept being a leader because I wanted to. Getting to work with the other leaders and teach the students quickly became one of the best parts of my week and was a nice breath of fresh air when my own classes actually got tough. Honestly, working with Bill and the rest of the Leaders was hands down the best “job” I’ve ever had and I’d go back to it in a second.

A memory that remains with me from my Student Leader days is:
Too many to count…: Pushing Bill out of his chair for a “Right About Now” skit , Tons of laughs with the rest of the leaders ,Spending countless hours on the 4th floor of Bonner for grading calibration sessions, End of Year TA breakfasts at the Pancake House, Phil snapping my old (fake) phone in half to prank the freshman,  Bill’s solutions to UB’s parking problem, And of course, Claudette’s pizza.

Any leaders you'd like to shout-out to?
Can we do all of them? They’re all pretty awesome people. For all the former TAs and some of the best co-workers I ever had:  Dan "The Man" Snitzer. Nuff Said.  Zach Bauer; Scott Literman; Dylan LaLone; Christine Menton; Margaret Scott: For making probably the most solid TA roster I could think of. Khoi Nguyen; Brent Haseley; Courtney Kodweis; Joe Groele; Will Nolan: For all of the semi-awake laughs at the early morning grading sessions • Phil Schneider; Erica Marron; Jay Favale; Nick Stalnecker; Rebecca Berg; Charlie Smith: For helping me to finally get Bill to crack and go to a Happy Hour.  Zach Steever; Sean Martin; Julie Fetzer; Andy Booth: For keeping my young and reminding me that I'm the "old" TA Laura Ziegler and Emily Brooks for being honorary TAs and awesome friends and classmates.  Kalli Haverkamp. She's pretty ok too.
