The Order of the Engineer is a fellowship of engineers that
emphasizes pride and responsibility in the engineering profession.
Senior engineering students take an “Obligation of the
Engineer” oath together, and receive a ceremonial ring.
John van Benschoten, professor and associate dean for
undergraduate education, traced the origins of the Order, which
began in Canada as the "Ritual of the Calling of the Engineer." The
students then took the "Obligation of the Engineer" oath together,
and each received a ceremonial ring.
The Order of the Engineer ceremony took place February 17, 2014,
following the naming of the Engineer of the Year.
