Where are you from? Cambria Heights, New York.

What made you choose UB? I chose UB for its extensive and opportunistic engineering program along with its modern, diverse, and welcoming atmosphere.

What do you like most about engineering at UB? The faculty are willing to help you with your interests, both with academics and beyond, such as research internship opportunities.

What is your favorite place on campus? I like the Medical Library on South Campus, because it's a nice get away from being on the North Campus all the time.

What else do you do? Outside of my classes, I am the Academic Excellence Chair of the NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers) chapter here at UB.

What are you passionate about? I am currently exploring what aspect of my major I would be passionate about. However, I want to contribute my engineering skills and knowledge to improve societies around the world.

What are your future plans? I want to get an internship in an engineering company or construction firm.

Deshawn was part of a team of students who worked to develop a water and solar-powered lens to purify polluted water. The project was featured on CBS's Innovation Nation. The project was also featured on p.20 of the 2014-2015 issue of Buffalo Engineer magazine.
