Student Honors, Awards and Recognition

Our students regularly receive accolades for their research activities, participation in national competitions, design projects, internships and more.

Yumiao Zhang, a PhD student in biomedical engineering and chemical and biological engineering, received the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Student Abroad.


Eight UB students have won prestigious scholarships and awards in this year’s National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program.


UB students claimed first prize in the steel bridge building contest and second place in the concrete canoe races at the ASCE upstate New York student conference, held on UB's North Campus.  


Jennifer Merckel, a senior double majoring in aerospace engineering and civil engineering, is the recipient of the 2016 Galactic Unite Flying Tigresses Scholarship, which supports women who are pursuing careers in aerospace and aviation.


A research team including Megan Russ, a doctoral student in the medical physics program within the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, has developed a process to create patient-specific 3-D phantoms that can be used to practice vascular procedures.


A team of six University at Buffalo students was victorious in the inaugural Collegiate Pentesting Competition, a cybersecurity challenge held Nov. 7-8 at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Stephanie Kong received the 2015 Nicholas P. Chopey Scholarship for Chemical Engineering Excellence. Kong is entering her senior year at UB, where she is majoring in both chemical engineering and Spanish.
