Konstantinos Slavakis was born in Thessaloniki, Greece and received the M.Eng. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Electronic Eng. from Tokyo Institute of Technology (TokyoTech), Tokyo, Japan, in 1999 and 2002, respectively.

During his graduate studies at TokyoTech (1996-2002), he was a MEXT scholar, and member of the Sakaniwa - Isao Yamada lab. He stayed again at TokyoTech as a JSPS postdoc fellow from Apr. 2004 to Apr. 2006. He also served as a Postdoc fellow at the Dept. of Informatics and Telecommunications, University of Athens, Greece (ENTER program), from July 2006 till August 2007.

Dr. Slavakis was a visiting scholar at School of Computational Sciences, Korea Institute for Advanced Studies (KIAS), Seoul, Korea (Dec. 2005), at Centre Tecnologic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC), Barcelona, Spain (Jan. 2009), and at Tokyo Institute of Technology (TokyoTech), Tokyo, Japan (July-Aug. 2009).

He also served as (tenured) assistant professor at the Dept. of Informatics and Telecommunications, University of Peloponnese, Tripolis, Greece (Sept. 2007 - Aug. 2012) from Sept. 2012 till Apr. 2013, where he was a research associate at the Digital Technology Center (http://www.dtc.umn.edu/), and from May 2013 till Aug. 2015, he served as a research associate professor at both Dept. of Electrical and Computer Eng and DTC, University of Minnesota

Dr. Slavakis is currently an Associate Professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York. His current research interests include nonlinear and data-adaptive compressive sampling for big data processing, feasible point pursuit for non-convex QCQPs: algorithms and signal processing applications, and parallel online algorithms for large-scale MRI.

Dr. Slavakis was the Associate editor (Jan. 2009 - Jan. 2013), and senior area editor (Apr. 2010 - Jan. 2015) of the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing and is also an IEEE senior member.
