Implementation and Field Evaluation of Pretensioned Concrete Girder End Crack Control Methods

Abstract: An earlier study recommended crack control methods for pretensioned anchorage zones through validated non-linear finite element analyses. This project aims to confirm the effectiveness of these methods by implementing them in the field. The effectiveness of crack control methods will be evaluated by measuring strains and crack sizes in girders built with control methods and by visually inspecting cracks during fabrication and erection. Finite element models will be updated according to strain data as necessary to develop further design recommendations.
