University at Buffalo to receive $1.9 million from New York State DEC to research recycling programs

Several news outlets — including WKBW, NEWS10 ABC, the Dunkirk Observer, LocalSYR and Buffalo Rising — reported on a $1.9 million grant UB’s RENEW Institute received from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to conduct a multidisciplinary study of the plastics recycling industry.

Led by RENEW director Amit Goyal, John Atkinson, associate professor in the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering, and Paschalis Alexandridis, UB Distinguished Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, are among the co-investigators on this multidisciplinary team.

Graduate students Austin Izzio, Cesar Lubongo and Jenna Meert, all in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, are also working on the project.
