UB has received the NCAA and Minority Opportunities Athletic Association’s 2018 Award for Diversity and Inclusion for its commitment to establishing an inclusive environment in athletics, on campus and in the community. The university will receive the honor at the NCAA Convention next month in Indianapolis.

University News


A UB-led team of researchers has received a $1.35 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Common Fund for Glycoscience to increase knowledge of glycans, a common but little understood class of biomolecules that helps bacteria attach to host surfaces, including those in the mouth.


The School of Law has joined the Rockefeller Institute of Government in launching the new Center for Law and Policy Solutions to examine pressing issues at the intersection of law and policy, and their effects on local communities. The new Center also includes as partners the Government Law Center at Albany Law School and the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs.

Research Spotlight

Using Buffalo and Phoenix as polar opposite subjects, and with funding from the National Science Foundation, a team of researchers from three universities is examining the different ways in which extreme heat and cold impact the nation’s cities.


Yeti, or abominable snowman, sightings have been reported for centuries. Now, a new DNA study of purported yeti samples from museums and private collections is providing insight into the origins of this Himalayan legend.

UB faculty member Ezra B.W. Zubrow has been named a SUNY Distinguished Service Professor, the highest rank in the SUNY system. The anthropology professor was one of 10 SUNY faculty members appointed by the SUNY Board of Trustees. 

University Police Lt. Kevin Will helped a couple through the snow and Main Street gridlock to get to Sisters Hospital for the birth of their first child.
