The Vice President for Research and Economic Development (VPRED) is key to UB 2020, the university's strategic plan for becoming a model 21st-century institution among the nation's highly ranked public research universities.
The Office of the VPRED enables greater collaboration across campus while also encouraging industry and community involvement. These strategic alignments generate more innovative thinking in addressing complex scientific and social issues from multiple perspectives. OVPRED offices support researchers across campus from concept to commercialization.
Sponsored Projects Services works with researchers submitting proposals and managing grants. The Office of Research Advancement helps train faculty and develop proposals in support of these external funding efforts.
Research Compliance, the Clinical Research Office and Laboratory Animal Facilities support research and ensure that scientists meet guidelines and regulations. The UB Incubators provide a seedbed for young, technology-driven businesses and Technology Transfer protects discoveries, helps with commercialization and assist with industry/university agreements. The Business and Entrepreneur Partnership office develops industry relationships and nurtures entrepreneurial enterprise.

GEM advances genomic science and literacy. This collaboration among the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities will help us shift to greater health through more personalized medicine.
The Sustainable Manufacturing and Advanced Robotic Technologies (SMART) Community focuses on next generation technologies, designs and processes to create sustainable advanced manufacturing.
The Community for Global Health Equity (GHE) examines social, economic, political and environmental factors contributing to global health inequities so the information can help policymakers and funders dealing with issues such as child survival and refugee health.
