Situated on the border with Canada, UB is one of America’s most internationalized universities. Our international community includes a diverse faculty and more than 5,000 international students from 115 countries. Along with a wealth of cultural programming, these scholars enrich our campus life, creating opportunities for cross-cultural exchange at home in Buffalo.
Excellent support services for international students and scholars are one reason UB has managed to triple its international enrollment in the past 15 years.
We offer a special, week-long orientation for international students, along with an array of ongoing support services designed to help members of our international community succeed in the classroom and enjoy all that Buffalo has to offer.
International Student and Scholar Services is the office at UB that helps members of UB’s international community adjust to life in Buffalo. Support includes immigration services, trips, activities, workshops on all aspects of studying and living in the U.S., and more.
The English Language Institute in the Graduate School of Education offers English language instruction, cultural orientation and pre-academic training to international students, scholars and professionals.
The institute conducts UB’s Intensive English Program, which specializes in preparing students for university study, along with the English as a Second Language Program for current undergraduate and graduate students.
More than a dozen student organizations enable UB students to explore other cultures or meet friends from their home countries.
Many of these groups host holiday celebrations, dance competitions and other cultural events, and play an important role in welcoming and supporting compatriots arriving at UB.
Part of UB’s Campus Life, the Intercultural and Diversity Center promotes diversity through programs, workshops and events that offer students opportunities to engage in dialogue and celebrate differences and commonalities.
International alumni chapters facilitate networking among members, host UB visitors and delegations, and assist the university with student recruitment activities in the chapters’ home countries.
