PhD student Nima Shahkaramipour from the Haiqing Lin research group has been awarded The Waste Management Research and Study Scholarship from The Air & Waste Management Association. A primary goal of the Air & Waste Management Association is to foster educational activities in the areas of air quality, waste management, and environmental management, policy, and law.

In addition, Shahkaramipour won 1st Place Student Poster Award at 2018 North American Membrane Society (NAMS) Conference. The North American Membrane Society is the only professional society in North America that promotes all aspects of membrane science and technology. For over 30 years, NAMS has annually organized the conference for workshops, seminars, and for graduate students to showcase their works.

Shahkaramipour is a fifth-year PhD student with four published articles on the topic of membranes for waste management. His dissertation is on “Developing Antifouling Membranes for Wastewater Reuse.”  His recent publication was titled 'Membrane Surface Modification Using Thiol-Containing Zwitterionic Polymers via Bioadhesive Polydopamine,' and the work was published in Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research (I&EC) Journal.
